Wave Technique
Try and get into a rhythm and be sympathetic. Try not to d any sudden movements or jab the tiller too much. You should be smooth.
When going up the face of a wave lean backwards or move backwards slightly to lift the front of the boat out of the wave and point up.
When going down the back of a wave move forwards so the back of the boat doesn’t drag in the wave too much and bear away to gain speed to go up the next wave.
You should do the opposite of upwind and try to keep the bow out of the water. Weaving your way through the waves looking for gaps to go through in the waves. Pumping is aloud once every wave to get yourself up and planing down the wave.
When tacking in waves you should always tack on the crest of a wave. As then the next wave pushes the bow of the boat around onto the new tack.
If you tack in between 2 waves then the back of the boat and the front are lodged in the waves and so it’s really hard to turn the boat.
Whereas if you tack on the crest of a wave then it’s easy for the boat to pivot as the back and front of the boat is out of the water.
