Looking At Wind Stratergy
Have you ever wondered why someone ends up coming out in front of you after a long beat and it just doesn't seem possible. Well we have put togethor a short article about wind stratergy. Then you can end up coming out ahead at the windward mark.
Clouds
This is a rain cloud or known as blowers they are black or grey. These throw out wind so try to get next to one of these. Never get under one as the wind increases before but decreases during. If you approach on the right then you should be on port tack but if you are on the left then you should be on starboard tack.
This cloud is a sucker as is sucks wind in. These are usually fluffy white clouds. The wind decreases before the cloud and increases during the cloud. After a long while these clouds turn into blowers. If you are on the right side of the cloud you get a lift on starboard tack and if you are on the left side of the cloud you get a lift on port tack.
Sea Breeze
The sea breeze is convection current. As the land heats up the air heats up and rises. This sucks more air into that space causing a breeze. The air rising now cools and falls once more as it falls it starts to be heated up again and rises. As the air is moving a breeze is caused. This breeze goes in the direction of the convection. In the example below the convection is clockwise so the wind goes from right to left. In the northern hemisphere High-pressure convection currents go Clockwise and Low pressure goes anticlockwise. In the Southern hemisphere the high goes anticlockwise and the low goes clockwise.
Wind Bend
The wind over the land in the Northern hemisphere always moves round counter clockwise. The wind over the sea does the same accept slightly less than the wind over the land does. This means we get a wind bend as you can see on the diagrams. If the wind is coming across the sea then there will be no wind bend or very little except there may be some close into the shore. Also if the wind is going straight from the North there will be no wind bend.
Gusts
A Gust is wind that is stronger than the constant wind, which moves with the clouds as these provide the gusts. When a gust hits the water you can see them by the darker area of water, as the ripples are closer together. When they hit the water they spread out which causes mini gusts and some shifts. You should always try to be on the edge of a gust. When on the right you should get a lift on port tack and when on the left you get a lift on starboard tack.
