Topper RYA Eastern area zone squad (day 2)
One or two more boats arrived prior to the previous day for the days training. From the start the wind looked more sailable compared to Saturday it was roundabout force 2.
On the way out we were asked to circle a green oilcan as close as we could or as close as was safe with 20 odd boats. They kicked us off with a series of trapezoid courses followed by some very tiring and sometimes annoying line starts, again some port tack flyers encouraged. Follow the leader was also on the agenda for a boat handling exercise, followed straight after was a zigzag downwind course from rib to rib. One more race and then it was a race in for lunch. Over lunch the wind continued to stay steady with blue sky appearing. For the afternoon it was more or less the same thing with a series of line starts and races, they never seemed to give us enough space on the line, I guess this was to practice our boat handling skills and look for gaps in close quarters situations. Then it was another race in for the debrief. I think we all improved roll-tacks, line starts as a result of the day and kept minimum hull in the water. Personally I am looking forward to the next one on the 9-10 March.
