Island barn winter series 24th november
For the second week in a row the sailors that turned up for the island barn winter series on sunday were greeted with literally no wind no sunshine.
The first race started off at 10:36 with oscar mcveigh getting a cracking start at the starboard end of the line, followed closely by zonal squad member ben palmer ,john mather, dicken M and sam E. Up the first beat the other sailors all grouped together making a big clump of sailors shouting "windward" and going nowhere as john, ben, oscar and logan mills all got clear air.
At the windward mark oscar was controlling the race but john and ben where still in the game. Shadowing oscar, john and ben caught up with him at the leward mark but lost him again on the reach. Oscar had control of the race until the last reach where ben, who was the perfect weight for this type of weather overtook oscar to leward and john, shadowing him to windward also passed him. Final result: 1st BEN Palmer 2nd JOHN Mather 3rd OSCAR mcVeigh
However the 2nd race which commenced at 12.02 was a different story. Once again Ben palmer got a good start but Piers was on his tail with John Mather. The usual bunch of sailors in the middle arrived halfway up the beat and the leaders where gone.
Sam eversfield getting a cracking start along with dicken maclean also had clear air but allowed ben, john and piers to sail to the other side of the course and avoid the dirty air from them and at the top mark found themselves behind.
At the end of the race there was a sudden change of course and ben was the only sailor who new this, sailing away from the others to take first place.
