Wave Technique
The original advice was to get into a rhythm and be sympathetic to the boat. Avoid sudden movements or jabbing the tiller.

Going up the face of a wave, lean or move backwards slightly to lift the bow and point up. Going down the back of a wave, move forwards so the stern does not drag and bear away to gain speed for the next wave.
Downwind, keep the bow out of the water and weave through gaps in the waves. The original page says pumping was allowed once every wave to help get up and plane down the wave.
When tacking in waves, tack on the crest. The next wave helps push the bow onto the new tack; between waves, the bow and stern can become lodged and make turning difficult.
